13. Difficulties with familiar tasks at home or work

This may present itself as difficulties at work initially, as early dementia sufferers find previously routine tasks difficult. And these problems may remain hidden from you if your relative doesn’t disclose their work problems.

Problems with routine are much less apparent at home until the symptoms of dementia get much worse. For example, forgetting the steps involved in preparing a cup of tea or meal are quite obvious, but by this time other symptoms will usually be present.

Routine tasks which many of us don’t consciously think about, such as driving to your local supermarket or remembering how to use the phone, can become increasingly difficult as people with dementia struggle to concentrate.
