Counted
among the world’s most beautiful cat breeds for their long shiny coats and
striking blue eyes, the Birman is famously known for being the Sacred Cats of
Burma. Legend has it that a temple goddess blessed these cats with striking
bluish-tinged eyes and golden fur coats after they helped a temple priest in
need. This medium-sized cat breed was imported to Europe and North America
during the 20th century, and has remained to be a popular cat breed.
Born white as kittens, they start to develop different colored markings on
their body, ears and face as they grow older, though their legs remain white
all throughout their lives.
