Elizabeth
Holmes was only a Stanford University sophomore when she dropped out of college
and co-founded Theranos, a blood testing company that made waves for its
revolutionary blood testing procedures. Theranos’ claims that it has devised
new ways of testing blood using only a small amount of blood. Stocks soared
after extensive media coverage, and Elizabeth Holmes was propelled to
billionaire status and was named by Forbes as the youngest self-made
billionaire worth $4.5 billion. However,
Theranos was hit with allegations of fraud and that its products don’t work as
advertised, which resulted in investigations done by the federal government
agencies. Elizabeth Holmes’ net worth plunged to $0 and she has since stepped
down from Theranos.
