This next blacklisting occurred at one of the most tumultuous times in America’s history. After World War II, the United States entered what is now considered the Cold War. At the time, Senator Joseph McCarthy was on the hunt for potential communists that threatened the democracy of America. The Senator famously went after many creatives, actors, artists, and elites. Anyone that voiced noticeable criticism during the 50s was a potential target of McCarthyism. Prominent screenwriter Dorothy Parker became one of his targets. Even though Parker penned some of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpieces, she was accused of having ties with communism and stripped of any job opportunities in Hollywood.
