One of the top recording female artists of all-time, Beyonce has been a prominent figure since being the lead vocal of the all-female pop group Destiny’s Child. Once she broke away and became a solo artist and fashion icon in the 2000s, the public dubbed Beyonce a true cultural icon. So what did she do to get blacklisted? Beyonce had the audacity to create the hit song “Run the World”. The song features the line “who runs the world? (girls)”. Often used as a power anthem for women’s empowerment, the Chinese government promptly banned the song. Beyonce has also been banned from Malaysia for wearing inappropriate clothing for a woman in that country.
