Dr. Martin Luther King was by far, one of the greatest American leaders to ever live. After surviving the first attempt on his life in 1958, King was assassinated by escaped convict James Earl Ray ten years later. As was common, King was among friends on a motel’s balcony when a bullet struck him on the neck. His friends rushed him to the nearby hospital, but he was presumed dead on arrival. The photo below was taken moments before James pulled the trigger. James was later arrested and sentenced to 99 years in prison.
