Weapons Of War
World War II caused a shift in the type of work that women did. Five million women began working in America from 1940-1945. Women worked in factories and defense plants. The image below captures a woman packing bombs for the war. While the men were off fighting in the war, the women were behind the scenes helping prepare the weapons. This did result in resistance, as women were working in male-dominated workplaces. These types of jobs are not very common today, but the pioneering spirit of women in workplaces still lives on.
