Linked to forgetfulness and the inability to make decisions, relatives are often shocked and surprised to find their family member with dementia only eating easy meals or snack foods, if they are eating at all. If a person with dementia lives alone, it is important to ensure they are getting regular meals each day.
Strangely, a recent study discovered that an early sign of dementia can be a craving for sweet things and almost an aversion to savory. Scientists don’t really understand this, and are doing further research. But if your relative didn’t previously have a sweet tooth, but now can’t get enough chocolate and candy, it may be an early sign of dementia.
