3. Increase in falls

An increase in falls as people get older is fairly common for apse range of reasons.  However, a lack of spatial awareness can mean that falling is an early sign of dementia.  People may begin to bump into the furniture more often or stumble over nothing at all, leading to an increase in falls.

Even more dangerously, people who fall that have dementia appear to lose the ability to try and stop themselves from falling, and will make no attempts to prevent the fall.

Slips, trips and falls are the leading cause of injury and death in the elderly, so this is an important symptom to notice and rectify with assistance aids around the home.
