On the 10th of June 1886, New Zealand lost the ‘eighth wonder’ of the world. A massive eruption at Mount Tarawera blasted The Pink and White Terraces of Lake Rotomahana into oblivion. These were the world’s largest silica towers and the South Pacific’s biggest 19th-century attraction.
