As if the deep seas aren’t scary enough, nature surprises us with the giant squid. These tentacled giants can grow to 43 feet long and prefer the inaccessible, deep ocean floor. Before 2004, there were no captured images of the colossal squid, and some scientists argued that the giant squids were either extinct or never existed. They were proven wrong when two marine specialists captured live images of the giant in the Ogasawara Islands. Like all other squids, these giants have three hearts and are a favorite delicacy for the sperm whale.
