To hold massive ships in place, anchors have to be huge and bulky. Anchors can weigh up to 30 tons thus have to be supported by chain links that weigh around 450 pounds each. The main reason why both the anchor and the chain have to be heavy is the difference in speed for both the surface and underwater currents. If an anchor can be that heavy, imagine how big and firm the machine operating the anchor has to be.
