The High School Musical heartthrob shared his upbringing in an interview with Rolling Stone. He was raised in an agnostic household, although he does have a Jewish background. His grandfather was Jewish, and that is where his Hebrew surname comes from. Efron did not practice religion in his childhood. This makes sense since he grew up in Southern California, which isn’t known for its strong religious beliefs. The actor said in an interview, “I was raised agnostic, so we never practiced religion, but my parents were very strict.”
