The 1980 horror film is seen as one of the best of its genre. The movie is based on the novel by Stephen King. The film was directed by Stanley Kubrick, who was a difficult director to work with. For Shelley, working on the film was an unpleasant experience. The director belittled the actress’s acting skills and told fellow castmates and crew to stay away from her. He pushed her emotionally, making her cry for so long, leaving her body dehydrated. The film was shot in chronological order, and as her character unraveled, so did Shelley.
