The film, released in 2017, received critically acclaimed reviews, thanks to Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the famous figure skater, Tonya Harding. The physical transformation for the role required intense effort from the actress, even causing her to go for weekly MRI scans after injuring her neck on set. Robbie also found it difficult to separate herself from the embodiment of Tonya Harding at times. In an interview with Grazia, she explained the effect the role had on her mental health saying, she lost her mind. The actress claims that the abusive relationship between Tonya and her ex-husband took a toll on her emotionally.
