The Diplomatic Reception room was also given a new feel. Melanie designed a new rug for the floor of the Diplomatic Reception Room, which is the main entrance off the South Lawn. The previous rug had been worn out due to many people walking over the rug over a long period of time. The new rug design features a border of flowers which represent the 50 states. The design was personally picked out by the first lady. An image of the newly designed rug is below.
