6. The Guatemala Sinkhole
After enduring a Saturday night storm in June 2010, Guatemala residents woke up to a terrifying 60 feet wide and 100 feet deep sinkhole in the middle of their town. It is believed that the large sinkhole swallowed a small house and a three-story building. Guatemala’s location and geographical activities make it prone to sinkholes, with geologists predicting more sinkholes are likely to appear. Although the sinkhole was already filled, it took some convincing before people finally believed that the pictures online were not photoshopped.
