The former Disney Channel star shares the surname of her famous country singer father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Although Miley Cyrus has made her mark in acting and music, the well-known name is not her real name. She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus. The name change came in 2008 when she changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus. Ray is an ode to her grandfather, Ronald Ray Cyrus, a Democratic politician. The name Miley was inspired by her smiley childhood. Her parents gave her the nickname “Smiley,” which she later adapted into Miley.
