Sidney Poitier
Sidney Poitier, who is 93 years of age, is a Bahamian-American actor, film director, and ambassador. He was the first black male actor and the first Bahamian to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1964, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in ‘Lilies of the Field.’ He was made an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1974. In 2009 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the United States as the highest civilian honor.
