In the 1940s, there was a growing concern that POTUS was under increased risk whenever he traveled using commercial flights. Therefore, since the late ’50s and early ’60s, the state has dedicated millions of dollars every year to manufacture and maintain Air Force One. The Air Force One is the official state aircraft dedicated solely to flying the president and his aides. Interestingly, as soon as the president steps onto an aircraft, the plane is automatically referred to as Air Force One, with Army planes and helicopters being identified as Army One and Marine One, respectively.
