The reasons for this are poor scores in affordability, wellness, crime, and infrastructure. In the greater Illinois area, there are only two major hospitals – raising serious concerns about access to healthcare. Crime continues to be a problem as law enforcement is underfunded. However, the biggest repellant for retirees is the sky-high tax rates. Many feel the rate is not worth it for the minimal benefits they are receiving.
