While viewed as one of the
prettiest scenic bridges in the United States, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in
Florida has a tragic past. Formally called the Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway
Bridge, but more popularly known as the Sunshine Skyway, this bridge is
actually the second bridge built, as the first bridge tragically collapsed when
an oil tanker crashed into the bridge pier in 1980, which killed 35 people. The
Sunshine Skyway runs 6,663 meters and connects Terra Ceia in the Lower Tampa
Bay area to St. Petersburg. Aside from its tragic past, this bridge is also
infamously known as a suicide spot, with more than 200 people jumping off this
bridge since its construction.
