8. The Misfits
“The Misfits” would prove to be too stressful of a production for the next famous celebrity marriage. Renowned playwright and author Arthur Miller desperately wanted his steamy wife Marilyn Monroe to play the lead in “The Misfits”. But the mismatched couple couldn’t take the high demands of making a movie together. Miller wrote Monroe’s character to be dramatic, but Monroe thought her husband’s blatant sexism caused many arguments. Monroe would reportedly change the script while filming, which annoyed Miller. With being confined in the desolate Nevada desert during production, the two had had enough of each other and divorced before the film’s release. It’d be Monroe’s last movie before her tragic passing, and arguably, the best performance of her career.
