After receiving that generous $1 million loan from his father, Fred, Donald Trump expanded his own fortune. Throughout the 80s, Trump invested, started, and expanded multiple ventures, eventually leading him to Forbes’ billionaires list of 1989. Trump humbly shared the featured photo above to highlight both his success and failures of his early business ventures: “#TBT As a young man when I proposed the Convention Center in New York City.” It was both ambitious and ultimately a failure, as Trump didn’t end up winning that bid. And as businesses continued to hemorrhage money in the early 90s, Donald Trump wasn’t back on Forbes’ billionaires list from 1990 to 1995.
