The name change was a strategic career move as the Hawaiian pop star wanted a name that sounded like he was from another planet so that record executives would refrain from thinking of him as an up-and-coming Enrique Iglesias. In a Latina magazine interview, he explained that his father gave him the nickname Bruno when he was two years old.
