Ruby Bridges by Norman Rockwell
The image below captured six-year-old Ruby Bridges being escorted out of William Frantz Public School by U.S deputy marshals. She was the first black student to attend the New Orleans school. Insults were thrown at the young girl by a white mob. Norman Rockwell painted an image to commemorate the day, and the much-criticized image was placed on a magazine cover in 1964. Ruby is remembered as a champion of change as she has served as an inspiration to many people all around the world.
