Mahershala Ali made history when he became the first black actor and the first Muslim actor to be nominated and eventually win two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor. His two biggest achievements all came in two years, Moonlight in 2016 and Green Book in 2018. Ali came from a very humble background and was forced to pursue sports just to get an education. Although he did get a basketball scholarship at the Saint Mary’s College of California, he was passionate about acting and only had eyes for the theater.
