The giant Asian hornet, the largest of all hornet species, is responsible for more than 40 deaths a year in Japan alone. Characterized by their bright yellow bodies and buzzing noise, this hornet boasts a sting so poisonous it can kill adult yaks and humans by causing tissue damage. They are mostly found in temperate and tropical Asia, where they live in large colonies. In early 2020, the giant Asian hornet was spotted in parts of the U.S., with locals nicknaming them the murder hornets.
