Free Cable Town
In 2005, a cable company, Dish Network, visited Clark Town in Denton County with an offer the locals couldn’t pass on. In exchange for a free digital video recorder and ten years of free basic television service, the 201 locals present would relinquish the town’s naming right. The locals unanimously agreed, and the town was renamed DISH, with capital letters. Their free service expired in 2015, but the town still holds the name DISH, one of the country’s weirdest town names.
