However, at just 21 years old, Bea Arthur was among the first few women who changed the narrative by joining the newly formed Marine Corps’ women reserve. In describing her character, army records paint Arthur as a woman who never backed down from an argument. She was honorably discharged in 1945 and blessed us with the aggressive character in The Golden Girls, which earned her an Emmy.
