Star Wars Merchandise Rights

In 1973, George Lucas made a deal in which 20th Century Fox studios handed him the rights to all Star Wars merchandise. At the time, the studio didn’t have high hopes of the franchise raking in millions and so agreed to Lucas’ request of a pay cut in exchange for the rights. In 1978 alone, merchandise sales reached a staggering $100 million in profits. George later sold the rights to Walt Disney for a fee of $4 billion. We firmly believe 20th Century Fox still regrets the decision it made more than 40 years ago.
