In 2009, only a small proportion of investors saw a future in Bitcoin, and even fewer wanted anything to do with mining coins. Nevertheless, James Howells was among the few who risked it but unfortunately never reaped his rewards. The Welsh computer guru lost the hard disk containing the Bitcoins private keys. His attempts to forage through Newport City’s waste disposal center didn’t bear any fruit, and his mined coins are estimated to be valued at around $85 million as of 2020.
