While many of us will see our vision deteriorate with age, and there may be real age related problems such as cataracts to contend with, many people with dementia have visual problems. Rather than a physical problem with the eyes, dementia related visual changes are caused by how the information your eyes receive is interpreted by the brain.

This can translate in a number of ways including reading and problems identifying colors. Interestingly, spatial awareness is often affected which can effect things like depth perception leading to an increase in bumping into furniture for example. This is particularly worrying in those who drive, as it can seriously effect driving ability and safety.
